I truly enjoyed the class and the presentation by the instructors was very practical and absolutely useful. The different shooting areas provided varied practical situations for both tactical focus and long range hunting scenarios. The ranch itself was gorgeous (if you could do something about the high humidity I would appreciate it! ?)…. Most memorable quote: Ray to Kevin…. “Doc, when you line up behind the rifle you slam it every time, when you don’t you miss — it’s that simple!”

Without the training from the Big K Ranch and the Thunder Beast Training Group the harvest of my bull would not have been possible... 998 yards, full value left wind, 20 degree slope.

The basic curriculum of PFR 101 is quite similar to that of other long range classes with heavy emphasis on good basics and modern precision rifle technique. My instructors, Ray Sanchez and Shane Coppinger were both extremely experienced. The one factor that sets the class apart is the integration of insights gained from competitive field shooting.

The long range practical precision rifle shooting class held at the Big K Ranch in Elkton, Oregon started out slow for me as I have a great deal of experience with all types of firearms, many different disciplines and firing conditions. The course was presented well, starting at a level that all participants were comfortable with and escalating to a high level of proficiency, leaving no one behind, no matter where they started. If needed every subject could be reviewed until it was understood. The participants came to the class with many different skill sets and everyone, myself included, came away with a better understanding and experienced that Ah-ha moment.

The student backgrounds included a benchrest shooter, SWAT team member, a female engineer, Bering Sea fisherman, big game hunting guides, avid shooters and a New York system analyst. Every one benefited from the instructors, Ray Sanchez and Shane Coppinger of Thunder Beast Arms Corporation of Colorado. From the classroom where they taught and demonstrated without flaw, to outside on the range with interest, respect and the highest level of expertise, these guys know their stuff.

The outdoor range experience was exciting and challenging for all. Scope doping range changing of all types, and lots of scope adjustments so that by the end of the course everyone was very comfortable and didn't hesitate to do it if needed. They showed everyone how to do all the positions that they taught and believe me, in some cases if you were off just a little it made a big deal at the longer yardages. Prone alignment, proper kneeling with very, very little sight movement, the use of sticks that were every bit as stable as prone. They taught the course very well and at a competitive level. I've seen a lot of courses taught over my 48 years of experience. These guys know what they are talking about. They're the real deal. This course will give you the confidence to take that long shot. Plus, they were a lot of fun to be around and shoot with. I know our paths will cross again in my travels from one match to another.

The Big K Ranch is beautiful, the Lodge is great and the food is super. The hosts are the best. There are also plenty of things to do that make your stay even more enjoyable. There is hiking, fishing in the river or ponds, hunting for pheasant, deer and elk. Be sure to have your camera with you at all times. The overall package of shooting course and accommodations are top shelf. This is a great place to go for the shooting education of your life. Young or old, man or woman, it fits all.

Thanks Big K and Staff.

I was lucky enough to participate in the long range shooting class at the Big K this past week and being a hunter and not a competitive shooter, I felt out of my comfort zone at the start of class. But these concerns were put to rest in less than an hour and as Ray and Shane talked about gun safety, shooting positions and marksmanship, I knew I could do this.

The old saying you can't teach an old dog a new trick was not the case in this class. I have been shooting firearms for over 40 years and I learned more about precision shooting in three days than I thought was possible. These are great instructors and just all around good guys. From body position to breath and trigger control these guys stuck close to the shooters and would help at each stage. They have a great way of giving advice and when it helped, as it always did, you soon become a fan. I was a rookie in the department of wind compensation but I now feel very confident on shots out to 1000 yards. I can't give high enough marks for this class and I am hooked on long range shooting. It helped my confidence when they asked if I wanted to try the 1000 yd target. With my new training under my belt, of course I said yes and finished up the class 4 hits for 4 shots at that distance. Awesome class. 5 star rating.
