I purchased my first "custom" rifle in April 2008 from Shawn Carlock owner of Defensive Edge. The rifle is his trademark .338 EDGE on a Rem. 700 action, Hart barrel, and H/S Precision stock, topped with a Leupold MRK 4 6.5 x 20. The quality and workmanship on this rifle are only second to the accuracy I have been able to achieve from it.

After taking delivery of my new toy I signed up for the Defensive Edge basic long range shooting school. I squeezed into the last class of the season and showed up in August for two days of training. The class consisted of one full day of classroom and range time and one day in the field. Topics included indepth information on MOA, trajectory, wind factors, ballistic programs, and the new high tech gadgets that make life easy. The second day was spent in the mountians shooting real life hunting simulated shots.

The information and techniques I brought back with me in two days of training would have taken me years to learn on my own. I can't wait for the Advanced class, what could be better than two days in the mountians shooting long range hunting shots in every known condition. Thanks Shawn.....

Approx 2 years ago, I began to research long range hunting tactics and products which led me to Defensive Edge a local company here in North Idaho. After several conversations with owner Shawn Carlock, I decided to order a 338 edge on Rem 700 action with 30" Hart barrel,H/S Precisions stock, DE Muzzle brake and scoped with a NF 5.5x22x56 NPR1 Ret. At the same time I was able to sign up for an August basic long range shooting class. My new rifle would not be completed by this class, however DE had a rifle for use in the class. The class time arrived and Shawn had a DE built 7mm short mag with for me to shoot. The first day we were in the class in the am for in depth lesson on trajectory, MOA, ballistics ect and some great video. After the initial class room peroid we went to the range and throughout the day shot at various ranges out to approx 1,110 yrds. After shooting the DE 7mm short mag all day, was really wondering if this was not the rifle for me. Let me tell you this was one fine shooting rifle. The second day of class we all met in the am and traveled to a location in the mountains for actual field shooting conditions. I did not think it would be possible to have more fun than the first day at the range, but was wrong. The day in the field is great fun and Shawn/Jr are there to assist you, but basically the shots are up to you and your shooting partner. GREAT FUN! If you have every considered taking a long range shooting class, I highly recommend signing up with Defensive Edge and Shawn Carlock. The class is located in wonderful Coeur d Alene Idaho area, so there is plently to do for anyone else that comes along! Thanks Shawn and Happy LRH!
