This is horrible! Why do men get a kick out of killing wolves?

by upset wolf disciple on Fri Dec 11, 2009 09:53 AM

This is horrible! Why do men get a kick out of killing things? Killing a wolf is like killing your own dog. Not a rabid dog, or a wild dog, but a perfectly obedient, docile dog who will love you. Wolves can get along with people as long as they're treated right and with respect. Wolves don't attack without being provoked. Ask yourself this question hunter and hunters: Why DO wolves attack people?

Can this be real?

This kind of response is typical of someone who sits in the sterile environment of their home and watches the PBS wolf documentary and simply can't understand why the poor wolf has been mistreated. I can hear the narrators well rehearsed and gentle voice: 'The innocent she-wolf, now denned up with her young vulnerable [close up of the wolves eyes] pups prepares for the long hard Yellowstone winter and will have to scavenge for any available morsel of food for the next 3 difficult months'

Give me a break! The wolf is as gentle as a domesticated dog?

This is why we hunt wolves:

So, you hunt wolves because they kill animals that are lower on the food chain? By that same reasoning, I suppose we should hunt humans, too. After all, they eat all sorts of animals without thinking the least about them. I'm not saying that animals shouldn't be hunted, but why do you butcher a species that is only worried about getting its next meal?

You're right that wolves aren't docile, at least. Of course, I know "domesticated" dogs that are just as vicious as a typical wolf. But wolves usually have their pups in the spring/summer, and they're more than capable of taking care of themselves by the time winter rolls round.

Wolves are NOT nice. They are NOT dogs. They ARE wild. You are a fool if you believe otherwise. These things are also BESIDE the point here. Wolves are a valid game species. I was born in Idaho, hunt in Idaho and have all faith in the competence and capability of the Idaho Department of Fish and Game to properly evaluate and manage the wildlife inside of our great state. And anonymous there at the top....go get cozy with a pack of Idaho's finest some time. DO let us know how that goes. Possibly the executor of your estate could.

yes i know this an old post. but since i surfed my way around the links, i'ma stick my two cents in, just because. I didn't know that only men hunted wolves. That's news to me.
They're hunted for numerous reasons, and the same reason you hunt deer. Think of the accidents that deer cause, and the many other points that i could write out, but don't feel like doing at this point because this would turn into a novel.
Look at your facts before posting, and don't come at me with they're endangered, be it so, there's still a designated quota that is allowed to be killed. Not every hunter that hunts wolves greedily kills them. Your're thinking of the stereotype that is thrown out there in the mix.
No i'm not anti wolf. so don't go there.

In response to the poor soul that obviously can not muster up a decent paragraph without the use of expletives. What do you enjoy in life? I personally enjoy the outdoors which involves hunting. I hunt with much respect for the animal and all other critters in nature. I don't hunt just to kill, I hunt with respect. Now back to my previous questions for you and that is "What do you enjoy in life?". Go do it. You don't see me encroaching on what you enjoy calling you names by the way of expletives and trying to control what you do. What gives you the right to encroach on mine? I am a much bigger human being than one who sits in their lonely home trying to control others enjoyment and telling others what they should and shouldn’t enjoy. What I hunt and kill respectfully I use to provide for my family. What you enjoy hopefully will provide for your family as well. Final thought, keep your nose out of my business, because obviously mine is not in yours and never will be. You are probably the kind of individual that thinks beef comes only from the grocery store. Didn't you know they have a garden out back that grows beef on branches? They harvest the beef every 3rd month, packs it, and then shelves it for your purchase. Shame on you. Your eating something that was killed.

Wolves are not peaceful animals:

March 12, 2010 - TEACHER MAULED TO DEATH BY WOLVES IN ALASKA!

In 2007, villagers in the western Eskimo village of Marshall posted sentries at night on the town periphery to keep wolves out after a pack of wolves attacked and killed six sled dogs. A wolf killed by villagers turned out to be rabid.

Wolves are natural predators looking for their next meal just like humans. But at least when humans hunt, we don’t start eating our prey while they are still alive. Have any of you ever come across a cow, horse or a deer that is still alive but can’t move because its hind end has been eaten away by a wolf?

Have any of you anti-hunters thought about our heritage as humans? Did you ever stop to think that if humans didn’t hunt, we wouldn’t exist? Hence hunters and gatherers.

Sure times have changed, but why ignore something that is such a huge part of our identity. It has shaped us to what we are today.

We are the smartest of all the species on earth and have developed ways to become better hunters and gatherers. We have the ability to create and maintain balance between human and nature.

Since wolves were reintroduced into Yellowstone National Park 15 years ago, the number of elk has dropped by 50%. The trickle-down effect of wolf reintroduction has brought elk and coyote numbers more inline with healthy estimates for the ecosystem. It has also boosted the population of foxes, cougars and other predators.

Now that the numbers of animals that exist are healthy for the ecosystem, it is time we start hunting wolves before their numbers get too high. What would the elk population be in Yellowstone in another 15 years if they weren't hunted? 0?

Wolves’ natural predators are humans.

I'll have to agree with you... it's ok to hunt for food, for animal control or to defend your propriety but killing wolves just like that is just rediculous. If i had choice between a situation where a hunter who think he is more male by killing a wolf for absolutely no reasons or wolves to kill that hunter and feed their pack for weeks i'd def. go with the second option. Sadly it wont happen cause wolves don't kill humans anyway... all they do is fuckin live until they get a bullet in the head by a pathetic looser.
