About the American Bison: Bison or Buffalo? It is the same animal. The technical name is "American Bison". When the first settlers and mountain men happened upon the great bison, they didn't know what they were and for lack of a correct name they called them Buffalo. The name stuck and today most people refer to beautiful animals as such.

Bison are nomadic grazers and travel in herds, except for the non-dominant bulls, which travel alone or in small groups during most of the year. Bison live to be about 20 years old and are born without their trademark “hump” or horns. The bison/buffalo become mature at 3 years of age, although the bulls continue to grow slowly to about age 7. About LaMonts Wild West Buffalo

Hunting the magnificent buffalo in a traditional manner is unequaled in excitement and adventure. Our bison hunts will enable you to relive a bygone era using methods that were used to hunt buffalo over a century ago.

Locating your trophy bull bison on a ranch this size makes for a true bison hunt. You will be hunting bison from a buffalo herd that roams the mystical and enchanting hills of the southwest New Mexico.

Buffalo are the largest North American game animal and it requires big bullets to stop them. Buffalo are unpredictable and elusive which makes it hard to determine when and where you will be successful, but we do guarantee the hunt. Head, cape for mounting, and meat are the property of the hunter. Meat processing fees are not included, although we will make arrangements. Buffalo hunts are guided one on one. You will be buffalo hunting either by horseback or 4WD-ATV, which will be provided.

We pride ourselves in offering the most authentic reproduction of the hunts of yester-year. Several hunt packages and options are available. Our buffalo camp is traditional. It includes a hunter cabin, cook cabin, horse corrals, saddle barn, and skinning tree. You'll have no doubt you're in the rugged Turquoise hills of Santa Fe! You'll be amazed at the peaceful, juniper covered landscape. Just minutes from downtown Santa Fe.

Both natives of South Dakota Monte and Lana have lived in New Mexico for over 35 years. They have been in the buffalo industry for almost two decades. It started with two orphan calves from the Bison ranch where "Dances with Wolves" was filmed, and a life long interest in buffalo became a passion with Monte. Their animals are humanely cared for...and their breeding program has a strong focus on horn growth and massive animals for record-book trophies!

Considered a Mom & Pop outfitter, they strive to make each hunter feel welcome. Their our goal is to make this a "Hunt of a Lifetime" that each hunter will remember and talk about for years to come.

Working closely with the Bonanza Creek Ranch, the hunts take place on 5000 acres of rugged, high desert country. BCR is not only a working longhorn ranch but also a movie set and home of Silverado, Into the West, Lonesome Dove, Wild Hogs and many more feature films over the past 20 some years.

Making their debut in the world of SCI at the Reno Convention in 2005, thousands of attendees admired their FULL BODY BISON MOUNT and commented on the fabulous work done by Dennis Otero, Majestic Monarch Taxidermy.

Most recently added to the program are YAK and the European Wisent - which are in very low numbers in the United States. These animals were once hunted in Poland and Romania, now considered an endangered species.

We hope you will consider hunting American Buffalo with LaMont's. Feel free to call (505) 869-4438 and set up your hunt with the rustic amenities and enjoy the beautiful southwest!

I first would like to thank you both as well as Cody for a great Buffalo hunt in December. Your assistance with our hotel, food and site seeing while we were in Santa Fe just added to our overall experience and enjoyment. Please thank Cody for his help during the hunt and the field dressing of the buffalo. Monte, I talked to my friend, Doug Black, the V.N. Vet and he will contact you in the future regarding a buffalo hunt. We have enjoyed all cuts of the buffalo meat and our friends have asked for seconds. If all works out, I would like to plan a buffalo hunt (for one of the big boys) to celebrate my 60th birthday in three years. I can see a shoulder mount for this one!

Just a note to express my appreciation for a great experience on your buffalo hunting ranch. It was exciting to stalk some very large bulls - to within 50 feet and, to ultimately take a really big bull. To me, he was a monster. I have never been so close to such a large wild animal. He could have stomped me into the ground in a heartbeat. This was an experience I will never forget! You all went well beyond the extra mile to make my hunt a success. For that I am so grateful and look forward to another hunt with you in the future.

You let me take home 2 lbs. of ground buffalo today from the SF Farmer's Market even though I ran out of cash. Thank you so much for trusting that I would send it to you, (I hope you don't trust everyone!) I love your buffalo meat. I'm a "recovering" vegetarian on the Atkins diet and the buffalo burgers are a nice change from chicken, chicken, chicken, and canned fish. I don't buy other red meat.

I am emailing you about my buffalo meat order... It was FABULOUS!!! I made buffalo chili for a Super Bowl bash and they ate every last drop! There was leftover rattlesnake chili with tequila, leftover raccoon and wild boar.. but NO leftover buffalo chili!

About Black Canyon Bulls

OUTDOORSMAN.COM OUTFITTER OF THE MONTH - OCTOBER 2008

If you are looking for an exciting Trophy Elk hunt or a Trophy Bison hunt, but you do not have the time for the endless hours of scouting, or your hunting environment just does not produce the size of elk you dream of hunting then look no further. Our beautiful surroundings make this 500 acre border property hunt, a feeling of being out in the mountains. Okay, so you don't think that hunting elk that reside with in a bordered piece of property is hunting. Guess that all depends what hunting means to you. If it wasn't hunting the SCI (Safari Club International) would not recognize and have a scoring system for these types of animals.

We are not going to convince you this ranch hunt is the same as an elk hunt where the closest elk you may see during the hunt is over 500 yards away and two mountain ranges over from where you are or that you get to ride hours into your camp on a horse or mule. If that is what you want, then this hunt is not for you. HOWEVER, if that is not what you desire then this hunt is for you. This ranch hunt provides a more relaxed and laid back atmosphere for the discriminating hunter that has constraints which offer him an OPTION from chasing that elusive bull all over the side of a mountain for 7 to 10 days, with absolutely no guarantee.

When you hunt elk with BLACK CANYON BULLS you will see the elk that you are there to harvest, be provided you with that shot opportunity and be guaranteed the shot or your deposit is all you pay for your hunt. As the hunter you will be afforded the opportunity to spot and stalk thru oak and service berry thicket, bugle them in during the rut or still hunt over well traveled trails or frequented water holes. You can make it as physically challenging or as easy as you want, not to mention that you can change the way you hunt during the hunt. Had enough of the spot and stalk, still hunt for awhile in a elevated stand and then go back to spot and stalk, the choice if yours.

The guide ( Robert) took the time to answer all the questions I had about elk and anything else. He is a great guide, a genuinely nice guy and friend. Harvesting an elk has been a dream of mine for many years and hunting with Keith it became the perfect hunt. I was so nervous I don't know how it all came together but it did. (WOW WHAT MEMORIES). Great people, fantastic food and ELK, ELK, Elk, and more ELK. Truly a first class outfit. I loved the no pressure hunt. What I really loved the most was the friendship and fellowship here, that's what will have me come back Sept 2008. I want to thank you for letting my family come out with me, not only was it a great family experience but it has created a bigger and better bond between me and my dad. Did I mention the food?? One of the best things about my job is meeting some outstanding people. That's exactly what your family is. The accommodations and meals were superb and I hope to be able to return in the future.

About Lake Bonneville Bison Ranch

OUTDOORSMAN.COM OUTFITTER OF THE MONTH - JANUARY & FEBRUARY 2007

For the real outdoorsman, the challenge of a trophy bison/buffalo hunt has no equal. Lake Bonneville Bison Ranch in Oak City offers a number of unique experiences.

Our central Utah ranch buffalo hunts guarantee you the most prime conditioned buffalo anywhere! You keep everything. We help you do it all. Trophy Bulls available up to 2200 lbs!

Come enjoy a hunting adventure with your entire family! If not everyone feels like hunting at the same time - we offer an era decorated quality cabin to stay warm in. After the buffalo hunt, you can all gather inside and eat homemade buffalo chili and homemade bread. Truly a place to relax. Contact Lambert Dutson - bison ranch manager and buffalo guide.

Bison or Buffalo? It is the same animal. The technical name is "American Bison". When the first settlers and mountain men happened upon the great bison, they didn't know what they were and for lack of a correct name they called them Buffalo. The name stuck and today most people refer to beautiful animals as such.

You're welcome to come to Oak City, Millard county, Utah and see our buffalo where we keep upwards of 300 bison. We have learned to keep them segregated in multiple pastures and pens out of necessity. They are gregarious animals and love to be together, however, they are extremely wild and at times very violent to the extreme of killing each other. We lose animals each year in fights. Each group has a pecking order and the bosses in each group will keep others from eating. We have learned to keep hay and grain available all the time. As a result of the availability of the feed 24 hours a day our calves grow extremely fast and are ready for harvest early.

We do not pump them up with any substances - growth steroids, drugs, hormones, or antibiotics. We feed them just hay and grains. Our bison are healthy and in prime condition. Premium animals produce premium quality meat. We are "Growers of Premium Bison" and proud of our reputation.

When you come to Oak City, Utah you will find our bison located about 3 blocks east of the church along the Oak City canyon road. Our bison bull ranch hunts take place up that same road about 3 miles at the mouth of Oak City canyon where we have a cabin sitting on the south side of the canyon road next to forest service land. We have most of the bison bull ranch hunts during the winter months and of course during the bad weather. The cabin has a rest room, kitchen facilities, a warm fireplace and many old time items that bring back pioneer memories.

When you come to harvest a buffalo bull, bring your family - many do come. If some of your group isn't interested in watching then the warmth of the cabin offers a retreat for them. After the hunt you can all gather inside and eat homemade buffalo chili and homemade bread and just relax for a while. We will do all we reasonably can to make your experience a good one. We would like you to return again and continue to enjoy the wonderful healthy meat of our premium bison during the years ahead. Our business is built upon our customers coming back again.

We help you do it all. We can arrange for most everything you may need. Bison are very large animals so we have to use a front end loader to handle them after they are down. Our small ones weigh over 1000 pounds and the larger bulls often exceed 2200 pounds. You will end up with 350 to 600 pounds of meat from your animal. If you want, we will gut you buffalo and take it to the meat processor. We can arrange for a taxidermist to be there or you can bring your own. Most people enjoy the fact that they don't have to get dirty. We understand that very well. You dictate what you want us to do.

You keep everything. When it is all settled and done you have many choices --- a beautiful shoulder mount, a European mount with the original horn caps, a robe made from the rear half of the bison hide --- you can have all of them or select what you want. And, of course, all of the meat is yours cut up and processed the way you want it done.

Some families want us to have a premium bison taken to our government inspected meat processor. We're happy to do that and we do it all the time for our customers. You call us and we will help you. In most cases we also can deliver the meat to your door after it is finished. Our government inspected processor will have the meat packaged as you desire, shrink wrapped, quick frozen and boxed for delivery to you. Our cost to you is just $5.50 per pound for any order over 100 pounds. What is the breakdown on the meat portions? Usually it is about 50% premium burger, about 30% roasts and about 20% steaks. If you want different proportions talk to us about it.

Awesome! What an exciting hunt experience. Lake Bonneville Bison Ranch offered an exceptional opportunity to us to kill one of North Americas most historic animals. The buffalo at Lake Bonneville are strong, healthy and magnificent creatures. Lambert Dutson, his wife and staff are very professional in operating this great hunt - no pretenses, no fluff and no b.s., just good old salt-of-the-earth people who will give you a memory of a lifetime! If you've ever dreamed of killing a buffalo, Lake Bonneville Bison Ranch is the place to go. Me and my sons had a grand time and we will talk about for the rest of our lives. Thank you Dutson and thank you Outdoorsman.com!!

Lake Bonneville Ranch, from first phonecall to final meat wrap gives exactly what you would want out of a Buffalo Hunt. They remove all the hassle of a hunt - leaving you with a very comfortable hunting experience Their staff provides a very hands-on approach, from the knowledge of their stock - to their after-kill processing. They do it all! "Over-all, Lake Bonneville Ranch was outstanding I intend to go back next year." Their accommodations, from start to finish, are exactly what you would expect.

Phoncon with Lambert Dutson -he is the real deal. I always hang up with the same thought; 'this man is brutally honest and tells it as it is, good or bad'. I was primarily calling to follow-up and see if there were areas we could improve. He had a few suggestions, and as always, I appreciated his candor and kindness. Today we discussed trading a hunt for some work next year. There is no question that he offers a good hunting value and prime buffalo meat. Lambert is truly concerned about his clients and their level of satisfaction. As a business owner I appreciate outfitters and businessmen like Lambert - he makes our job of referring outdoorsmen to good, quality companies easy.

"We told them exactly what we wanted, and they gave us exactly what we asked for." Lake Bonnevile Ranch in Utah provides easy travel and precise directions. Upon arrival a very accommodating staff provides information on where to go to find desired buffalo stock. "They did not oversell or undersell, in fact I ended up doing alot better than expected." Lake Bonneville Ranch's crew is outstanding with it's full service cleaning and transportation. "We shot it and they did the rest. From the spot we shot the buffalo to my doorstep they took care of the whole process." "Overall - Lake Bonneville Ranch was a good operation with good honorable men running the day to day affairs. I would strongly recommend them.

From start to finish - Lake Bonneville Ranch was very accommodating. The Bison Ranch makes it very easy to book a trip and just as easy to be satisfied with the results. I would recommend Lambert Dutson and the Lake Buffalo Ranch to any of my friends. I think one of the fundamentally important aspects of a hunt is the person you are hunting with - Lambert Dunston is, without question, a professional. Over-all the trip exceeded my expectations. I would recommend a hunt with Lambert Dutson, and will return for another hunt.

Lake Bonneville Ranch is a 'Grade A' establishment, my overall experience was excellent. The whole process is undoubtedly professional, from the initial contact - to the final buffalo processing. The only thing that could use improvement would be the amount of land the hunt entails, however, once we got going, that was not an issue. My overall experience was very good, I am going back and would recommend this hunt to anyone. Lambert Dutson is exactly the type of person you want running an outfitting company. The hunt was good but the overall experience was excellent.

I recently purchased a hunt from Lake Bonneville Bison Ranch. The Hunt was scheduled for November 8th 2006. The hunt went off without a hitch! Quayle and Lambert Dutson run a very classy operation. We were greeted and taken care of as if we were one of the family. I would highly recommend this operation to anyone who is interested in participating in a Buffalo hunt. The Dutsons made the hunt exciting and even fed us after the hunt was over. They made sure that each and every hunter was treated with the utmost respect and kindness. They are very knowledgable and very helpful. This was one of the best hunts I have been on. It was truly an experience I will never forget.
