Information about New Zealand Hunting
New Zealand is a country in the south-western Pacific Ocean comprising two large islands and numerous smaller islands. It is notable for its geographic isolation, being separated from Australia by 1,250 miles. The South Island is divided along its length by the Southern Alps and the North Island is less mountainous, but is marked by volcanism. The dramatic and varied landscape of New Zealand has made it a popular location for film production. Due to the country’s long isolation it has an extraordinarily diverse plant and animal life.

About Alpine Hunting
The World’s most Exceptional Red Stag and Unbeatable Premier Hunt Experience! It’s a claim that we at Alpine Hunting New Zealand don’t make lightly. Once you’ve experienced our superior hunting habitat it will come as no surprise that since 1992 we have become the standout supplier of World Record Red Stag heads as well as all other New Zealand species as detailed in our Hall of Fame. At Alpine Hunting New Zealand we retain an enviable reputation for maintaining the highest possible standards in professionally organizing and implementing New Zealand Trophy Hunts. We have an exclusive high country property and private lodge in the Central North Island, and guides who are experienced, well respected and amongst the best in the business!
The abundance of premium game and the quality of our team have afforded us international recognition as the South Pacific’s unequalled hunting destination and the ability to “set the standards” our competition still strives to achieve. Alpine Hunting is seriously committed to supplying “Trophy Quality Heads” and the premier experience we’ve built our reputation on... but not at the expense of some “good ol’ kiwi fun”. Since our humble beginnings, Alpine Hunting has grown immensely. First of all into a highly professional hunting operation with a rock solid infrastructure but most importantly, into a “family” of long term team members where everyone from our housekeeper to our pilots and guides take pride in what we do without forgetting to have fun along the way.
When you stay with us, we emphasize an informal environment with all the comforts of home. We look forward to the evenings when we can all sit together around our huge dining table and we can swap stories and laughs. Nothing makes us happier than being able to share your excitement when you “bag” the trophy you’ve traveled so far to hunt, and the opportunity to make new friends along the way.
There are no internal fences at Alpine Hunting - all species run together and you’ll hunt for your trophies from an abundance of game. We believe that convenience is the key to a successful hunt and have created an environment where we can maximize opportunities and accessibility to the game. When you hunt with us, you will not have to spend any time driving to hunt every day because it’s all right here!

About New Zealand Quest
Preserve/Wild Red Stags: Private Preserve Hunting is at Haupiri Valley, which is nestled at the base of mountains with stunning views, snow fed rivers, and lakes. For 2008 we have expanded the hunting area to include all of the natural forest and tussocks and make your hunt even more memorable as the scenery is fantastic. For wild stag hunts, hunt the whole river valley, with most stags taken along the grassy meadows. You will be able to get a quality hunt from March - September with the ‘Rut’ (Roar) beginning in March and through to May. Taking a trophy stag makes you eligible for SCI record book and we can help you track down stags that will take you into the books with an impressive tally and memories of a great adventure. This is a true wilderness experience with luxurious new modern 2008 lodging right on the river, and great brown trout fishing right at your front door.
Tahr/Chamois: Tahr hunts are best carried out between mid-April and mid-August. Tahr bulls begin to move into the nanny groups at the end of May and will stay with these groups until the end of August. Tahr hunting can be a very physically challenging experience, which takes the hunter high into the snow and ice of New Zealand's rugged alpine country. However with the right hunting guide, this can become a hugely satisfying and successful challenge, with a magnificent trophy as the ultimate prize. In addition, with helicopter access now possible, this exhilarating experience can now be made available to hunters of all levels of physical fitness.
Fallow Deer: Fallow deer have a range of hide colors ranging from black to pure white, menil or spotted. With their antler formations and differing skins colors they make a wonderful trophy for the wall. The 'Rut’ for fallow deer begins in April and extends to the end of May. Hunting fallow is available February through September.
Sika Deer: Hunt the wily sika deer in the central North Island with world renowned hunting guide, Neil Philpott or Kent Kaiser. Both free range and preserve hunts available in idyllic settings. There are good numbers of Sika deer in certain areas of the North Island and they are a very exciting and challenging deer to hunt. Smaller in size than a Red Deer but bigger than a Fallow or Whitetail, Sika are a very popular animal to hunt with their elusiveness and ghosting through the scrub.
When hunting for preserve red stags or wild red stags, stay in the secluded wilderness setting of Haupiri Valley in brand-new, 2008 lodgings. Modern, luxurious cabin complete with wonderful meals, Sky TV and deluxe accommodations. With the beautiful blue, crystal clear, Haupiri River out the front door and snow-capped mountains behind, it doesn’t get any better. Also terrific brown trout fishing on the river. What a place to relax!
