About Grey River Lodge

Ours is a total wilderness experience offering big game hunting for Woodland Caribou, Black Bear and Moose, upland wingshooting for Ptarmigan, hiking, fly fishing for Atlantic Salmon and nature viewing. Our guests access modern remotely located lodges via an exhilarating helicopter trip over an unspoiled picturesque landscape. Imagine, the nearest community is 14 miles away and is itself isolated, with no roads and outside access by boat and helicopter only. The closest road of any kind is 25 minutes away via helicopter @ 120 MPH.

With the highest populations of moose in North America, extremely healthy woodland caribou herds and some of the largest black bears found anywhere, Newfoundland provides tremendous opportunity for big game hunters. This, coupled with the remote locations of our hunting lodges and the associated low wilderness hunting efforts, even further increases chances of bagging one of these prized trophies. Those interested in bow hunting are very welcome, as are black powder hunters. We also extend a special invitation to couples, including non-hunting spouses, who will find our modern accommodations very favorable.

Our hunting is highly controlled, with limited numbers of permits available for each big game species in order to at least maintain existing population levels. Overall success rates at our lodges for the past ten years have been over 80% for moose and virtually 100% for woodland caribou. A very incidental hunt for bear has taken one or two per year, but they would usually be in the 400-500 pound range and the hunters involved would most likely have taken both moose and caribou on the same hunt as well.

As always, our big game hunts are being reserved farther and farther in advance as each year goes by. Moose hunts in particular are usually filled more than a year ahead and our focus on archery hunting has put our services in even more demand by those seeking a very special wilderness adventure.

Service and accomodations were outstanding. Mary Giles fed us like kings! Weather was completely uncooperative, way to warm and pleasant. Caribou were not active at all except very early and very late in the day. Hunted hard for 6 days and killed on the last day in the afternoon. Bull was much smaller than I planned to kill but a once in as lifetime trophy to me nonetheless. Very few animals seen, mostly attributed to the weather. Tony Tuck runs a first class operation, I would recommend this hunt to anyone that is prepared to walk the bogs and hunt hard all day.

About Kinden's Quinn Lake Outfitters

Kinden's Quinn Lake Outfitters Ltd. is a fully licensed "drive in" hunting and fishing camp. We have welcomed guests from all over the United States and Canada, who we are proud to say, thoroughly enjoyed their hunting experience. Our lodge is located on an old woods road, roughly 50 km (about 30 miles) from the scenic municipality of Millertown, located in the Central area of our beautiful island. Any "serious" hunter looks for serious guides, who have the experience and know how to help them bag their prize animal. At our camp that's exactly what you receive. We're not just offering you the hunting experience of a lifetime, but a personal invitation to get to know some of the friendliest people in the world. We offer wilderness hunting for Moose and Black Bear and water teeming with fish, rugged, untouched natural beauty, and one of the most breathtaking hunting trips you will ever embark on. Everett Kinden, also referred to as "The Big E" by his friends, has been guiding in the Millertown area for over 26 years. He is an avid hunter, as all guides should be, and knows the tree stands, lakes, and bogs like the back of his hand.

Everett started out guiding in the Millertown area and has remained true to the woods he loves. If you are lucky enough to get to know this colourful character, one of the first things you will observe is his passion and respect for the woods, and the wildlife that inhabit it.

Everett and the other employees of the camp will do whatever they can to ensure you come home with the animal you are looking for.

The moose hunting season is a long awaited time of year in Newfoundland and Labrador. In the fall of the year, both men and women can be seen loading their vehicles in preparation for "a few days in the country". This is also an exciting time of the year for our humble company. Our moose hunting season begins the first week of September (for 2008 hunt) and concludes in mid - November. The first two weeks of the hunt, however, are reserved for a different breed of wildlife and outdoor enthusiast - the bow hunter. We accommodate all types of hunters, even those who use the bow. Our guides take interested parties into the wilderness of Area 17 with the hopes of bagging a prize moose. There are an estimated 120,000 moose on the island of Newfoundland. Why not book your trip now, so you can have the hunt of lifetime?

The bear hunt is also a special time of the year for our outfitting camp. Hunting these large and often intimidating animals is nothing like stalking a moose or caribou. Weeks before your arrival, Everett or one of his trusted guides can be found scouring the wilderness of Area 17, tracking these huge beasts and dispersing bait to lure them near a tree stand, located roughly 30 feet above the ground, yet close enough to the bait to let you get a clean shot at the animal. Your guides repeat this ritual, so the bear will return to that very spot for its daily dose of food. While you wait patiently in the seclusion of a tree stand, the animal will hopefully waltz by, allowing you to take aim and bag your bear. There are an estimated 10,000 Black Bears on the island, some weigh in excess of 500 lbs. Can't make it in the fall? That's fine, we offer both spring and fall bear hunts.

It isn't only the big game that attracts hunters in droves - it's the abundance of small game. Rabbit, grouse, partridge, duck, and other water foul are a dime a dozen in Area 17. After bagging your big game, you can go after one of these beautiful animals. There are numerous ponds, lakes and streams in the area, many of which these beautiful birds call home. Small game hunting is a favorite pastime of many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. Throughout the hunting season, you are sure to see a rabbit snare carefully hidden in the trees, or the howl of an old Beagle or other bird dog in the midst of a chase. Life in these parts is a little more laid back, the stresses of the regular day seem to fade away with the sunset, and usually don't return until long after you have left us. Sound nice? Why not drop us a line?

Mature bulls can exceed 1200 lbs, with the average being 1000 lbs. Moose are normally extremely wary with keen senses - a challenging hunt for the serious hunter.

Combination moose & caribou hunts are also available. Please contact us to find out how to book your next hunt in Newfoundland!

Newfoundland Moose Hunts: Introduced to the province in 1898, North America's largest deer species has prospered here and are now estimated to exceed 160, 000 animals. Mature bulls can exceed 1200 lbs, with the average being 1000 lbs. Moose are normally extremely wary with keen senses - a challenging hunt for the serious hunter. During the peak of the rut from late September to mid-October, however, moose become more agressive.

Newfoundland Woodland Caribou Hunts: Newfoundland boasts the southern most herd of Woodland Caribou, estimated at over 60,000 animals. Those animals share the same habitat as moose, giving the combination moose/caribou hunt its popularity. The rut coincides with the moose rut and ends by mid-October. Boone and Crocket records attest to many record book animal taken in Newfounland over the years.

Newfoundland Black Bear Hunts: There are an estimated 6,000 to 10,000 black bear in the province. Due to low hunting pressures, they have thrived and bears in excess of 500 lbs. are frequently reported, with the average being between 300 and 400 lbs. The bear hunt is offered only as incidental to the moose/caribou hunt but each year several hunters take home an added bonus to their trip

My father and I hunted Moose, Caribou and bear out of the Arluk cabin. Our guide Roland worked very hard every day to get us our animals while Jackie made outstanding meals (and snacks), you most definitely will gain weight from her exceptional meals. Adrian, Marge, Roland and Jackie did everything possible to ensure that we enjoyed our time while hunting. The cabin is very comfortable and is a welcome sight after a long day of hunting. Adrian's attentiveness is demonstrated by him setting up a meeting with the local taxidermist (he does great work)before our departure. No matter the question Adrian always answered. I can honestly state that Main River Safari will do everything within their power to get your animals and enjoy the experience. Bottom line, good folks that will provide you with outstanding memories!!

Went w/ Tom and my father-- a great hunt with a great location and a professional staff. Adrian and Marg go out of their way to make sure everything is taken care of. Staff made sure to discuss what we were looking for in terms of animals as well as evaluate our abilities to plan for hunting areas that "fit" best. My father, who is 69 y.o. and was in dire need of a vacation, had a great time with his very personable guide Roland. Dad hunted hard before he tagged out and not only had a terrific experience hunting, but also genuinely enjoyed the company of his guide. The Arluk cabin is in a beautiful spot near a flowing river and a "steady" backwater. Guides worked real hard to make sure we all had a shot at the animals we wanted. My guide "Fonz" got me straight to a beautiful bull my first day out. The cook Jackie was exceptional with fresh baked and prepared meals morning, noon and night. They were all very personable and eager to make our hunt everything we wanted it to be. Camp was comfortable and a great place to relax once the hunting was done. There is also a generator that is run from to time to time to power satellite phone, laptop/sat. internet (slow...no surprise), and a tv/vcr w/ a few tapes. Nice deck to relax out front. Beautiful country....like nothing I'd ever seen before. We all tagged out before 10 am on the second day of the hunt. Will do it again some day .....well worth the trip. I would recommend a Main River Safari fall moose hunt to anybody--they run a top notch operation and front what I've seen and read, your chances of success on a moose are pretty good---we were at 100%.

Three moose by 8am on our second day. What a great experience! Friends from home have been to Main River Safari a few times and I have seen their photos and heard their stories. However, one cannot appreciate what is seen through photos or heard through stories until it is actually experienced. Main River's focus is on customer service. We were provided everything we needed to be comfortable and we were given excellent moose hunting opportunities. I overheard one of our guides say that Jackie is the best cook in Newfoundland and I believe it 100%. Our weather was perfect and on day one, Sean had taken a bull with a 42 inch spread while mine taken at 1:30pm was 39.5 inches and a 14 pointer. My guide Ian, did a very professional job and got me where we needed to be and took care of all the small details in between. I initially thought that this was a trip of a lifetime but that has changed. I will be back sometime in the future. And without doubt, I will be calling Main River Safari to book my next moose hunt.

I hunted black bear with Jeremy and was completly happy with the trip. He runs a first class outfit with good food, blinds, tents and equipment. I had a partner with me, he killed a nice brown color phase bear with a bow and I killed a nice black bear with an old lever action rifle. Everyone in camp killed at least one bear with 2 of the guys killing 2 bears each, including one that went over 7ft. I would go on this hunt again and suggest that if you are looking for a great outfit, run by a true outdoorsman who knows how to treat people and put bears on the ground this is the outfit for you.

Great hunt. The lodge was clean and plenty of room. The food was very good and there was pleanty of it. The hunting guides were very capable and worked 110% to get us our animals. Frist rate hunt from the time we booked out hunt till we recieved our meat. Adrian did every thing he could to make our hunt a great hunt and enjoyable experience. I had never been on a guided hunt before so I really didn't know what to expect. But it was every thing I hope for and more. I'd go back in a heart beat if the opportunity would arise. There were three of us on our hunt and we all filled our tags. Saw plenty of animals and had a great hunt. Main River Safari is a top notch outfitt. I can't wait to get back there sometime in the future.

Adrian runs a first class operation. The guides, lodge and food is excellent. There is plenty of game in his area, and the guides will work hard to get you an animal. His hunts are well worth the price. We are going back again.

This was a Great Hunt. Being a hunter with some pretty bad back problems, Adrian and Marg set me up just right. The food was perfect- home cooking at its best, lots of it also. The Guides were as helpfull as could be and very professional. My Guide in particular was extremely helpfull carrying 95% of our gear to help me with my back(less to carry-can go farther and longer). There were three of us in my party-all took a Moose, I had a shot on day one at a smallish Caribou- I passed hoping for later in the week. Total for the week- 3 Moose, 1 Caribou(2 of us passed shots). I would highly recommend this Operation to anyone and would like to plan a hunt with them in the future. I would gladly talk with anyone contemplating a hunt with Main River Safari- if you would like to reach me, you can get my number from Adrian and Marg.

This being my first big game hunt in the canadian region, I experienced excellent camp accommodations, outstanding food, experienced guides that worked hard to find game. This outfitter provided excellent care for handling and transportation from field to processor to shipping home. Although I did not see a lot of animals the week I went. This was due to unusally warm tempatures that held the Caribou migration back a week or two and kept the Moose from really getting into the rut until the last day of my hunt when I scored a 12-point bull Moose with a 40" spread. All three of us hunting shot Moose and one hunter also shot a nice stag Caribou. My outfitter Adrain and Marg are good honest people who care about the experience for each of their hunters and will do everything in their power to make your hunt a successful one. I highly recommend this outfitter and am planning a return trip if for nothing more then the beautiful scenery and breath-taking views on the helicopter ride in.

Just got back from hunt with main river and was totally ecstatic with results of the trip. The accomodations were first class, food exceptional, and above all hunting was everything that was promised by adrian. I have been on five very poor prior big game hunts with no success. Most of it due to poor outfitting and promises not kept. Adrian assured me of a good hunt and delivered. I saw total of 10 moose on hunt and shot a large cow and followed that up with 27 point caribou the same day. I would recommend this outfitter and his operation to any serious hunter. The guides also do an exceptional job. Looking forward to getting back.

My husband and I went on our firsr caribou/moose/bear hunt early in September. We had been planning this trip with Adrian and Marg for over a year. From the first time we contacted them, they were nothing but forthright, honest, and helpful.By the time we actually got there, they had answered numerous emails and phone messages from us so we knew exactly what to expect.I cannot stress enough how they take care of you from the beginning of the experience to the end. When we got to Newfoundland, they met us personally, already had hotel reservations made for us, and took us to dinner. They then picked the whole group of us up to take us to the heliport so we could get to the camp. The camp itself is beautiful. It sits by a stream and in front of a lake.It is comfortable:beds for all, running water, a washing machine, satellite TV and phone, and moose sign all over the place. Edith, the cook, made sure we were stuffed with goodies. The guides were fun, patient, and knowledeable.
