Information about Saskatchewan Fishing
Saskatchewan is a prairie province located in the central region of Canada, one of only two land-locked provinces. It contains two major natural regions: the Canadian Shield in the north and the Interior Plains in the south. Northern Saskatchewan is mostly covered by boreal forest, and the Cypress Hills and Great Sand Hills lie in the south. Saskatchewan has extreme climates with very hot summers and very cold winters.
OUTDOORSMAN aims to present only the most reputable outfitters and guides, however, we recognize that there is always potential for personality conflicts and misunderstandings. About Hatchet Lake Lodge
OUTDOORSMAN.COM OUTFITTER OF THE MONTH - MAY 2008
Welcome to Hatchet Lake Lodge, northern Canada's premier wilderness fishing adventure destination. Five-star accommodations, complete with gourmet cuisine and private prop-jet service, all tucked gently away in a quiet little corner of this wondrous world. If you're dreaming of a fishing adventure in which you'll catch monster northern pike or huge lake trout, consider yourself one step closer to making your dream a reality! We have charters for Northern Pike, Lake Trout, Arctic Grayling, and Walleye.
The main lodge and cabins are situated on a beautiful island on the north end of Hatchet Lake located a short boat ride from our runway. What a thrill when you come around the point and up to the dock for the first time. Then, to the sound of bagpipe, you feel the wonder of Hatchet Lake Lodge.
Here you can relax as you never have before. In comfort, in style, in whatever state of mind you imagine utopia can be! Join us, and discover Nature as pure and inviting as your dreams have painted. Come...eperience the sheer magnificence...of Hatchet Lake Lodge.
Northern Pike are the single most sought-after fish in our system of lakes, and we have some heartstopping pike action awaiting your arrival. While pike in the 6-15 pound range are the norm, there were dozens of trophy fish in the 20-30 pound class as well. (Lodge Record Northern Pike is 35 lbs!).
Lake Trout are the signature fish of the North Country, and Hatchet Lake is a tremendous laker fishery, with huge fish being caught every season. When the bite is on, you can land dozens in just a few hours. Our current lake trout record is 44 pounds, with fish in the 4-10 pound range being routine.
If wading the banks of a cold, crystal clear stream in search of an exciting, spirited species sounds tempting, this is what you're looking for. While fish in the 3-4 pound range would be considered a real trophy, arctic grayling average 1-2 pounds and are one of the most muscular, acrobatic fish to be encountered on ultra-light tackle. (Lodge record: 4 pounder from Hatchet Lake rapids) If you're using a fly rod, you'll have the ultimate set-up!
However, we have five or six very good lakes which regularly produce walleye from 3-6 pounds, with an 8-10 pounder being reported every once in a while. (Lodge Record walleye is 10 pounds!). Those who take a break from the big, toothy critters to seek out the walleye usually come back all smiles.

About Kane Lake Outfitters
Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Arctic Grayling, and Walleye are the species that await your arrival. The northern pike is Canada's greatest attraction to American anglers looking for a great Canadian fishing experience. Just think of it: here's a fish that will eat just about anything that hits the water! And where fishing pressure is limited, these critters grow as long as a man's leg... sometimes longer! (and we're not pulling yours!)
Most of our customers are from the U.S. and enjoy an outdoor adventure - it's a fishing trip they talk about for years to come.
Fishing is in varied habitat that includes protected waters, deep dropoffs and river mouths. Conserving our excellent fishing is an on-going priority, and Kane Lake Outfitters has a policy of catch and release of prime breeding fish as well as the use of barbless hooks.
The best types of lures for pike and lake trout are five of diamonds, silver canoe spoons and deep-diving rapalas. Walleye are best caught with spinners, diving crank baits and rubber-tailed jigs. The brighter the color, the better.
Fishing is best from mid-June until the end of September. That means all summer long. There is no time throughout the summer that you cannot catch your limit because of the coldness of the water.
Although trophy pike ranging from 15 to 30 pounds are caught by most of our anglers, our camp record was caught in 2005 by Pat McCann of Marshall, Michigan. Measuring in at a whopping 50" from end to end, this pike was a monster!
