The winter wolf hunts are an excellent and rewarding hunt for North America’s most elusive predator. Welcome to Wistaria Guiding. Our guiding area is located along the northern shore of Ootsa Lake, which borders the Tweedsmuir Provincial Parkshore in beautiful British Columbia. We provide some of the worlds greatest big game hunting, fishing, and upland bird hunting. Or, if sightseeing or photography is your passion, you've come to the right place for that too! At Wistaria Guiding, hunting for Wolves is a memorable one. Whatever your personal preference, we try to accommodate you. We provide the expertise of three generations of guiding experience and pioneers of the area since the 1920's. Picture a fly-in camp nestled in a valley with pristine mountain meadows surrounded by majestic glacier capped peaks. From your camp you can hear the call of a moose or pick out your goat on the slopes above.

At our main camp, you will sleep in a large rustic log cabin and hunt from our front door. It sits on the shore of a small lake in the hill country. The cooks and guides stay in a smaller log cabin where you will be treated to delicious home cooking and good conversation.

All bookings require a 30% deposit. The remaining balance is due upon arrival in camp. We accept either cash or travelers checks. Please book as early as possible to ensure a good week. For more information and to obtain a price on your package, please contact us.

Our company has been operating on the headwaters of the Finlay River for over 35 years. We offer some of the best fishing and hunting on 2500 sq. miles of pristine wilderness in British Columbia, Canada. Whether you prefer rifle, black powder, or bow hunting, we specialize in combination hunts for Mountain Caribou, Mountain Goat, Canada moose, black bear and wolf. We also provide hunting opportunities for these species as single animal hunts. Mountain Grizzly and Stone sheep are available by special arrangement.

We start our season in June with spring grizzly bear hunts. We do fishing and wilderness trips in July and August, and also in August we take our sheep hunts. We offer the combo hunts for moose, mountain caribou, goat, black bear and wolf between mid August and mid October. Grizzly are sometimes available by special arrangement during the fall combo hunts.

We cater to small groups, usually about four or five hunters at one time and Ron guides all the time himself, along with two assistants, thereby offering a very personalized service to our guests. The 2008 season will see his 38th year outfitting in this same area. We are pleased to be joined by our daughter, Rena, and son-in-law, Brandon Ponath. Our son Silas, who also grew up in hunting camps, will join us when his regular job permits. All of these energetic young guides are great assets to our business.

Our pristine wilderness area, in the heart of northwestern BC, is where you will find superb hunting opportunities. It is a remote area accessed only by floatplane. The charter flight to and from camp is included in our rates. We have guest cabins with wood heat for accommodations. You only need your hunting equipment, personal gear and sleeping bag.

We have six camps located in the area but only hunt one or two at a time, and rotate camps from hunt to hunt to ensure there is no pressure on any one portion of the area. There is boat hunting on big lakes and / or backpack hunting, hiking mountainous terrain, but returning to a main camp each night for excellent home cooked meals and a warm cabin.
