About Arctic Adventures

OUTDOORSMAN.COM OUTFITTER OF THE MONTH - SEPTEMBER 2008

Arctic Adventures is an Inuit-owned outfitting organization with more than three decades of experience hosting hunters and anglers in Nunavik, Quebec's arctic region. Over the years, Arctic Adventures has built an enviable reputation for consistently providing our guests with quality caribou hunting and fishing vacations and personalized professional service.

Quebec-Labrador Caribou hunts requires careful planning and attention to detail. Arctic Adventures' hunts are organized to provide our hunters with a memorable experience on the tundra. When you book a hunt with us, you know where you will be hunting with a maximum of eight hunters in camp. You can expect to relax and enjoy five full days of exciting caribou hunting, trout fishing and northern adventure.

Due to the superb locations of our caribou hunting camps, our success rate for two mature bulls has been close to 100% over the past ten years. All our camps are warm, clean and comfortable with shower facilities, generated electricity and satellite telephone service. You may hunt caribou with rifle, black powder or bow. Our guides know their territories and how to adjust to each hunter's equipment and capabilities of big game hunting. Each guide strives to conduct a safe and successful caribou hunt.

Guests' satisfaction is what drives our efforts and we know what hunters appreciate. Friendly, courteous hard-working staff await each group of hunters. Our camp cooks know that "good food and plenty of it" makes hunters happy. We continually receive compliments on the comfort of our camps and the quality of food we serve. Attention to detail is what sets us apart.

After you’ve produced hunting shows for a while, you come to understand there are perfect animals and perfect places for making great programs. There are perfect outfitters, too. Taping is so much more fruitful – and enjoyable – when you’re with the right kind of outfitter and guide. And frankly, we’ve never found any better than Steve Ashton and his entire crew at Arctic Adventures.

There aren’t many guarantees in the world of hunting and fishing but Arctic Adventures comes as close as you can get. Their camps are open only during the peak seasons, and all the camps are strategically located on prime fishing and hunting areas. They can’t make the fish bite, they can’t make the Caribou appear, and they can’t control the weather, but they can - and do - control everything else really well, and that’s the sign of a great outfitter. When we travel with Arctic Adventures we don’t worry about anything, we know the entire staff have us covered with our best interests and safety in mind. Add in the incredible fishing, hunting, wildlife and scenery that we’ve experienced while guests of Arctic Adventures and you have all the reasons we keep coming back!

Great fishing. No, unbelievable fishing, to the point where the char literally wore out our arms. A visit to the Payne River Fishing Camp is much more than just a great fishing trip. It is a total experience, an opportunity to spend time in the land beyond the tree line where the summer days are long and the nights are short. Sharing this experience with a friend was rewarding and whenever we fish, wherever we fish we will remember fly fishing for Arctic char on the Payne Fjord and River.

The Payne Bay camps were every bit as comfortable as I have come to expect from Arctic Adventures. First class all the way! Carol and Calvin do a great job of managing the camp: everything runs smoothly, and Carol’s cooking is wonderful! But what really impressed me is the fishing. As you know I’ve fished a lot of different places, including many in Canada, and this was simply the best fishing trip I have ever been on. The char are big, incredibly tough fighters and are more than willing to take a fly. They are also the best eating fish in the world, and abundant enough that you don’t feel guilty about taking a few.

Arctic Adventures operates three Arctic Char fishing camps in Nunavik, Quebec’s Arctic region. The Payne River and Tunulik River Fishing Camps are strategically located near very productive waters where sleek, silvery Arctic Char feed on shrimp, krill and capelin during the brief arctic summer. The Tunulik II Fishing Camp is located on the Lagrève River where Arctic Char and Sea Run Brook Trout migrate in mid-August. The river also holds two to six pound Native Brook Trout which are protected by our camp’s own “live release” conservation policy.

You will live among the Inuit in the land where nomadic caribou stop to look you over curiously; where Canada Geese go to raise their young. On the waters of Ungava Bay, you will often see seals and possibly site a white Beluga Whale while fishing for Arctic Char. Those who have fished with Arctic Adventures return home with many exciting stories about the strong Arctic Char they caught. They also come home with lasting memories of their Inuit hosts, the Arctic scenery and the wildlife they encountered during their visit with us.

With more than three decades of experience behind us, Arctic Adventures’ looks after every detail to ensure you have a safe and worry free adventure in the land of the Inuit. From the moment you book your hunting or fishing trip, you will be served by our friendly dedicated, professional staff who are committed to your satisfaction. Whether you wish to travel alone or with a group of companions, Arctic Adventures welcomes your call!
