Big River Outfitters was founded by Olin Albertson in and is located in Vanderhoof, British Columbia. Big River Outfitters offers quality hunts for: Canada Moose, Elk, Mule Deer, Whitetail Deer, Mountain Goat, Caribou, Grizzly, Black Bear, Wolf, and Waterfowl.

Black Bear Hunts - Black bears are abundant, and big bears are taken every year. Hunters should expect to see an average of 6-7 and have multiple opportunities to shoot a good bear. Because the area we hunt is so large we usually only end up hunting about 1/3 to 1/2 of it during a season. This ensures our area never gets to much pressure in any one area. In 2007, we saw 17 bears on our best day, we had 100% success with most of our bears going around the 6 foot mark and our largest going 7' 2". Hunter satisfaction is high.

Big River Outfitters (BRO) has leased hunts from Outfitters in the Omenica Wildlife Management Region. This gives BRO access to approximately 2500 square miles of hunting area, with habitat ranging from lowland medows to high alpine mountains.

We have access to some of the best hunting this region has to offer. Your travel destination is Vanderhoof, B.C., 60 miles West of Prince George. If you fly, we can arrange pickup from the Prince George Airport. If you prefer driving, it is about a 10-14 hour drive from the border depending on which route you take.

Thought I pass along this springs success. We had 100% success on our black bear and grizzly hunts. Most of our black bears were around the 6 foot mark, with our largest bear going 7'2" with about a 19 1/2 inch skull. Our grizzly was a tremendous bear going over 8 feet and a 22 1/2 inch skull. The cumpulsary inspector told me it was the largest skull that had come in so far in the Prince George Area. All in all we had a banner spring and I am more than happy with the results. Our hunters were tremendous and our hats go off to them, they were a real pleasure to have in camp.

My brother Quayle, and I had a chance to hunt black & grizzly bears with Olin Albertson of Big River Outfitters in early June 2007. Olin comes across as a sophisticated, intent outfitter, full of energy and ready to work. A few things we appreciated about him were his confidence and almost immediately, upon meeting his family, we found him to be a very level and grounded family man. His camp, located on the west side of Williston Lake in British Columbia, is clean and organized (both in appearance and speech – nothing to offend any party) with wall tents acting as separate sleeping and cooking quarters. Olins black bear hunts are primarily spot and stock from the road, and the bears seem to be everywhere, we saw an average of 6-7 black bears per day. We could have tagged out on black bear any given day but we exercised patience and took them on day 2 & 3! Our grizzly bear on the other hand did not come as easily, we ended up taking him at dusk on the 7th day of our 9 day hunt. The grizzly bear hunt was a little more strenuous and you need to be mentally and physically prepared to work. We are a couple of middle aged guys who were prepared to get up every morning at 4:30 for breakfast and then hunt from 5am until 10 or 11pm - and some days that is what we did. Olin is a stout kid who was always ready to work hard, but remained vigilantly aware of our physical well-being which we truly appreciated. Olin is truly a great outfitter that is open to client feedback with an interest in constantly improving his operation. His ethics and honesty are unmatched.

I have been on a number of guided hunts - some good and some bad. Olin Albertson, of Big River Outfitters, is one of the kindest, most sincere and client concientious that I have met. His black bear areas and numbers are outstanding. Even the grizzly bear numbers in the area seemed healthy and in good supply. The footage was superb, and the outfitter attention to detail, from pick-up to accommodations, is above standard. Thanks Olin for a great bear hunt.

Olin and I have spoken many times regarding his hunting area, hunts and outfitted camps. OUTDOORSMAN will be hunting black bear with him May of 2007. We are excited to see his area of BC and will return with some excellent footage. Some interesting notes on Olin: He has been hunting since childhood and guiding for most of his adult life. As a coincidence, our conversation turned up the fact that he worked with my Father as a full-time service missionary, about 10 years ago. My Dad was complimentary toward Olins integrity, professionalism, and work ethic. I am impressed with his candor, and concern that he never allows himself the luxury of getting excited and over-promising on any of his services. We fully endorse Big River Outfitters & Olin Albertson. Olin epitomizes this Paul Moore statement: "Look for a good outfitter that promises a clean camp, good food, good guides and ONLY the potential of shooting a nice animal. You will leave happy, regardless the outcome.

I have tromped through the wildlands with Olin Albertson many times throughout my hunting career. He is not only a strong-willed,soft-spoken gentleman but an excellent spotter, tracker, hunter, and marksman to boot. I have enjoyed every excursion we've been on wether it be pursuing elk, mule deer,or predators(coyotes,cougars, bears). His respect for nature and wildlife is reflected by his good attitude and ethics; attributes that I find very important in an outfitter and friend. I have become close friends with Olin an am counting down the days until November so once again, I can stalk the elusive mule deer with him.
