About Thorne Bay Lodge
Thorne Bay Lodge is Located on Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska. We offer Guided fishing trips for halibut and salmon on the calm waters of the inside passage. We fish the protected waters on the east side of Prince of Wales Island which are sheltered from the oceans swells which come from the west. We also offer Self-Guided fishing on the rivers of the island and Self-Guided hunting in the vast forests of the island. Being centrally located on Prince of Wales Island gives you access to 2,600 square miles of public land. A large portion of which is within Tongass National Forest. With over 990 miles of coastline and over 1,500 miles of road maintained by the Forest Service you have access to nearly the entire island to hunt and fish. Prince of Wales Island is the third largest island in the US territory. Flights go through Seattle, Washington and arrive in Ketchikan, Alaska.
We fish the calm waters of the inside passage on the east side of Prince of Wales Island. Fishing on our 28 foot cruiser is comfortable and the cabin is large enough for everyone to seek shelter when it rains. We use twin motors for added security when we are out on the water. The shallow depths at which the fish feed make for a uniquely pleasant fishing experience. We fish water from 120 to 300 feet. Saltwater fishing is a lot of fun and the variety of fish available is incredible. Your next strike may be a 20 pound Ling Cod, a 150 pound Halibut or a giant King Salmon.
Thorne Bay Lodge is centrally located on Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska. Prince of Wales offers endless opportunities for your fishing adventure. There are more lakes and streams than one man can ever attempt to fish in a lifetime. The road system gives you access to many of these pristine streams. All of the streams are well suited for wading. Unlike most of Alaska there are no Brown Bears on the island, only Black Bears. Prince of Wales Island gets Steelhead runs and 4 of the 5 Pacific Salmon runs in the river systems of the island.
Black Bear Hunting: Hunters from all over the world come to Prince of Wales Island in search of trophy Black Bear. The island is known for having
a strong population of large Black Bears. Alaska Fish and Game data shows that the average bear on Prince of Wales Island has a 1.5 inch larger skull when compared to other game units in the state. Whether you are hunting with a rifle or a bow you will have many opportunities to harvest your trophy Black Bear. Thorne Bay Lodge gives you the chance to explore the island and hunt the way you prefer. The best time of year to hunt for bear is in the Spring, May 1st-June 30th.
