The term ‘Big Five’ originated among the hunters of a bygone era to describe not the largest of the animals that they hunted, but the most dangerous. These are lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros. Every one of these animals has a reputation for pursuing its attacker with intent to kill. Perhaps the most persistent is the buffalo, which will ceaselessly pursue his aggressor, making hunting a life-or-death experience for the hunted and the hunter!
OUTDOORSMAN aims to present only the most reputable outfitters and guides, however, we recognize that there is always potential for personality conflicts and misunderstandings. Therefore, we recommend that you use the 'outfitter submittal' forms to discuss your needs & expectations then gather more information and make an informed decision about your next Big Five Safaris.

About Outdoors International
The phrase Big Five game was coined by white hunters and refers to the five most difficult animals in Africa to hunt on foot. The term is still used in most tourist and wildlife guides that discuss African wildlife safaris. The collection consists of the lion, the African elephant, the Cape Buffalo, the leopard and the rhinoceros. The members of the big five were chosen for the difficulty in hunting them and the degree of danger involved, rather than their size.
Our Lion / Lioness hunt includes: 1 male lion and 1 female lioness with 3 days/2 nights; all meals drinks; accommodations; airport pick up; and hunting permits. All plains game can be added as per price list. *can be upgraded to a 10 day hunt with 5 additional days of plains game hunting.
Both the Lion and the Lioness can make for an extremely exciting hunt. This member of the Big Five deserves your utmost respect. He is extremely nimble and fast, able to cover 100 yards in 3 to 4 seconds. Unpredictable as a housecat and extremely vindictive, he will finish what he starts and is well equipped to make short work of a man. An ambush predator, if he is hurt and he knows what has hurt him – he will be intent on doing something about it!
We offer elephant hunts in South Africa and Zimbabwe for both trophy and non-trophy animals. From the time of your arrival until your departure, our Professional Hunters (PH) will ensure that your experience is comfortable, exiting and rewarding. Our elephant hunt takes place on a huge, UNFENCED areas. This elephant hunt includes a PH, vehicle, meals, drinks, accommodations, skinner, tracker. Talk to a consultant for details.
Cape Buffalo hunting has drawn more people to Africa than all the other Big 5 combined. Regarded as one of the most ill-tempered animals on the face of the earth, Cape Buffalo hunts are extremely popular. Our South Africa Cape Buffalo hunts does take place behind a high fence as does every South Africa cape buffalo hunt, however the property is VERY large (25,000 to 30,000 acres) with a big herd of 300-400 buffalo roaming it. Our Zimbabwe Cape Buffalo are hunted without a fence. There are some HUGE bulls available on both. *Cow hunts are also available and are much more affordable.
Unlike hunting the other Dangerous Game species, Zimbabwe leopard hunting requires baiting to lure them into range. Much like a chess match, leopard hunting requires both patience and persistence and the hunter should be prepared to dedicate a large portion of his Safari to this pursuit.
Zimbabwe leopard hunting begins with a plains game hunt for bait animals. Once the bait sites are established, hunting begins. Baits are checked daily and replenished when required, which can be tedious and time consuming, but it is vital to the success of your hunt. When a bait is finally hit and it is determined that it is a shooter male, a blind will be constructed and the waiting game begins. Luring a mostly nocturnal predator into a shootable position during daylight hours often requires great patience, so be prepared. When it all comes together, and a leopard magically appears on your bait is an exhilarating experience that will long be remembered as a highlight of your hunting career.
