We have some the finest Colorado hunting trips available. We offer Colorado hunts from Elk to Mule Deer in the spectacular country of the Uncompahgre Plateau. We are especially grateful because all of our Colorado hunts take place in National Forest and BLM lands including Unit 61 and 62. There is over 50,000 acres per unit with vast amounts of prime Colorado hunting habitat. The habitat ranges from heavily wooded timber, to lush green meadows, with many aspen groves, and sage flats. You will be in prime high elevation for Colorado hunting giving way to quality animals with a sustaining population. Our Colorado hunts are in remote areas only passable by ATV's and 4x4 transportation.

Here at Dark Timber Lodge we have combined conditions that set us apart from our competitors. Colorado hunting has always been thought of as superior elk and mule deer hunting habitat because of the dark timbers, water holes, and scrub oak areas that elk like to frequent. During the Colorado hunting season for elk they are very vocal and are supported by large numbers of animals. We also have a 3-D hunting course that sports life sized Elk and Deer decoys. We also have spike camp besides our lodge for your Colorado hunting experience.

We are a fair chase outfitter without fences the only way we can have success is by going where the animals are. It is also very important that when coming on your Colorado hunting trip that you be in the best physical shape as possible. You need to not be afraid of hiking many miles in rough terrain, this will be the difference in the outcome of your Colorado hunt. You can purchase archery Elk tags from retails for Unit 62, but black powder must be drawn.
