Whatever the weapon of choice is for you we have a guided elk hunt for you to enjoy, not too mention a combination hunt as well. Most our elk hunts begin October and mid-November. There has been many trophy class animals harvested on these guided elk hunts, we are confident you will be successful.

Generally the elk hunt during the rut starting in September thru early October produces, anywhere between 290 to 350 class elk. 95% of our guided elk hunts after the rut are successful and anywhere between 50 to 70 % unguided elk hunts are.

You will basically ride into our camp on horse back and pack out your elk on our mules. This is the way elk hunting should be, primal and roughing it.

There is no need to worry everything your elk hunting adventure here at Wyoming Expedition is taken care of. We pick you up and drop you off in Cody after your elk hunt. We will feed you some of the best home cooked meal and even let you barrow a horse. Accommodations consist of over-sized army tents with a cot and pad. Ross Johnson Outfitters offers fully guided hunts throughout New Mexico, and wherever the search for trophy game may take us. Big game species include elk, mule deer, antelope, bighorn sheep, oryx, ibex, coues deer, and mountain lion.

Each hunt has its distinct characteristics; whether it is an archery elk hunt when the bulls are bugling in the late summer sunset, a muzzleloader mule deer hunt with the smell of gunpowder in the air, or a rifle antelope hunt during the rut in the vast open plains. It all began back in the early 80’s when Ross used to trade in the fur market. The market fell, we got a few (more) hound dogs and started outfitting lion and bear hunts. From there it was a natural step to outfitting elk, mule deer, antelope, and other big game species.

Over the years we’ve kissed a few horny toads for good luck and been “wammied” by a few crows who brought the worst. The end result being that we have placed our clients in the right place at the right time and harvested some extraordinary animals. The number of 400 class bulls, 180 to 200 class mule deer, and 90 inch antelope harvested by clients of Ross Johnson Outfitters speaks for itself.
