Mountain Lion hunting is not just a winter past time for us, its serious business. These guided cougar hunts depend heavily on favorable weather conditions, but with good snow cover, success on past guided cougar hunts has been good. This animal is a highly elusive cat which makes them a prize to be had amongst hunters. Our mountain lion hunting hounds are trained and continuously exercised in hunting these sleek natured animals. It is truly an indescribable adventure to hunt behind the dogs and enjoy the chase in a beautiful mountainous area.
Mountain Lions range in size from 80-110 lbs with the toms reaching 130-180 lbs. Cougar licenses can be purchased over the counter. These guided cougar hunts are operated out of a local lodge or motel which is at your own expense. We have a local meat processor and taxidermist who will take care of your processing, shipping, and taxidermist needs; or our mountain lion hunting guides can prepare your meat and mount for you to transport home to your own local vendors. Mountain lion hunting in British Colombia is different from any other cougar hunting experience you have ever had. Here at Opatcho Lake Outfitters we mountain lion hunt over 316,000 acres of prime hunting habitat. We recommend cougar hunting between the dates of December 1st through February 15th for the most success.
It is imperative to have snowmobile transportation during these mountain lion hunts. After a large track is located we turn our dogs loose until treed. It is at this time you will have the opportunity to decide whether want to harvest the animal. We also offer coyote and wolf hunts over bait, these are usually very active areas.
The weather can be treacherous at times, but safety comes first for the hunters, the guides, and the dogs. Our mountain lion hunts are in the typical Canadian weather, but this enhances your chances of harvest!

Rick Wemple has established himself as one of the West's foremost Lion Guides. The Cougar Hunts run December through April 15. The Cougar population is at an all time high. I use dogs for the chase on these big cats, and snowmobiles, 4-wheel drive vehicles, and snowshoes for transportation on these hunts. Everything except your own personal lodging, gear and license is furnished. We recommend the use of a handgun, rifle or archery on a cougar hunt. There are quotas in areas, and in 2011, License & tags may be over the counter for non-residents IN 2011. 100% success on hunts!
I ask you to be flexible on your time schedule. I set up a schedule of hunts and will book you into one of those slots. However, if a hunter completes his hunt early and the conditions are perfect for hunting, I may ask you to arrive earlier than your booked time. On the other hand, if the weather is not perfect for the hunt, I may ask you to wait to arrive until the weather is better. I really want your hunt to be a success and will do everything possible to assure you that it will be. I will do all the paperwork for application, or by Internet web site.
