About Atlantic Rivers Outfitting Co
Main River Lodge is a remote fly-in destination situated at 1400 feet in the Long Range Mountains of western Newfoundland and is a 30-minute flight north of the airport town of Deer Lake. The outpost camps are strategically located in the valleys that are natural conduits for big game travelling to and from the plateaus, Gros Morne National Park and the Main River Heritage Reserve.
We offer some of the finest Newfoundland hunting trips available given our remote populations of moose and woodland caribou that experience low density hunting pressures.
Our annual hunting success is typically 90-100%. We schedule our hunts during the peak of the rutting season from early September through mid October. Our guides are absolute masters at “calling” moose to within 50-100 feet. This exhilarating experience is most rewarding as the trophy hunter typically has the potential of multiple choices during a one week hunt.
We offer black bear as an incidental hunt to be purchased with either a moose or caribou license.
Hunting accommodation options range from our comfortable Goose Hole camp, which can host a maximum of 4 hunters per week sharing 2 bedrooms and common bathroom to our mobile “tent” camps that we will limit to 2 hunters per week.
We have extensive experience at living in remote areas for months at a time and have perfected the “tent” experience over the past several decades. We have Arctic grade dome style tents with wooden floors, running water, showers, oil heat, generated power, satellite phones and TV. Our kitchen tent is 16x20 and each hunter will have a private 14x16 tent.
These tent camps can be discreetly set up in valley passages or mountain cirques known for this seasonal big game activity. This option is ideal for the hunter seeking a low impact hunt but equal opportunity for a trophy animal.
Our caribou success ratio in 2013 was 100% with 4 licenses filled. Our moose success ratio in 2013 was 94.4% with 17 licenses filled from a total of 18 issued. No black bear licenses were sold in 2013.

Spruce Pond Hunting Adventures - Guided Newfoundland Hunts

Damon Clarke PO Box 2248 RR1 Corner Brook, Newfoundland A2H 2N2, Canada (709) 632-6068 |
The Burgeo-Meelpaeg Plateau is home to a diverse range of geographical features that will make your hunt both enjoyable and challenging. Woodland caribou favor barren and low-lying hills. Stands and forests of spruce and fir trees are ideally suited for moose and black bear. Muskeg and swamp areas are always prime places for watering holes for all three species. This melding of barrens, muskeg and forest means that you could see all three big game species during your hunt.
The area sits astride a wonderful area of healthy animal populations. Traditional woodland caribou migration patterns travel right into the Spruce Pond area making it ideal for the fall caribou hunt. Coupled with the robust moose and black bear populations and you have one of hunting's best-kept secrets. The Spruce Pond area is uninhabited and the nearest community is over 100 km away.
