Featured twice on ESPN's "Backroads with Ron & Raven" this hunting haven has hosted hunters from all over the United States, and they never cease to be amazed at the abundance and number of birds we see floating on our potholes and scurrying over the rolling hills here on The Bison Ranch. We are located in -the most exclusive and beautiful part of the Missouri Coteau, where the density of prairie potholes per square mile is higher than anywhere in the country--and thus, this is where the birds are!

Our hunts take place on our private land: thousands of acres of private virgin rolling prairie and CRP (Conservation Reserve Program land) that is teeming with every kind of duck imaginable, in addition to the big Canada geese, Snows, and Speckleberries Geese.

We are located between two national wildlife refuges that are just as well known for breeding ducks as they are as dancing grounds for sharptail grouse--and our upland game hunting is world class. Not only sharp tail grouse, but also ring-neck pheasant, sandhill cranes, and Mourning Doves flourish here.

Fall Hunts October 1-10 and November 3-12

Black Duck Outfitters licensed North Dakota duck and goose guides have over 50 years hunting experience in North Dakota. In 2007 Black Duck Outfitters received its North Dakota Outfitters License and started to offer a VERY LIMITED number of guided hunts to our customers. Fall hunts are the opening week in October and the first two weeks in November ONLY!

We hunt ducks and/or geese in the mornings and upland or waterfowl in the afternoons. Field hunts for Snows/Blues, Canadas/Specklebellies, and Ducks are from layout blinds and are usually one guide per 4-6 clients. Puddle duck hunts for Ducks and Geese are in the large potholes and smaller lakes. If we limit out in our morning hunt we will hunt upland in the afternoon. Our North Dakota waterfowl guides will arrange a variety of hunts to suit the interests of your group, and generally do not mix parties unless you have less than 4 hunters. Please keep in mind that some hunts are dependent upon calm weather for safety reasons.

North Dakota is legendary for the Best Goose and Duck Hunting in the Lower 48 ! We shoot Canada Geese and Specklebelly Geese plus lots of Snow Geese. We shoot mixed limits of ducks including Mallard, Pintail, Teal, Widgeon, Bluebill, Redhead, Canvasbacks, just about every duck that travels the Central and Mississippi Flyways! All birds shot will be processed and you can take them home (up to your state's possession limit), or donate them. We don't believe in wasting game.

Our spring snow goose hunts take place near a major staging area for snow geese in NW Missouri. Several hundred thousand birds are common and, given the right conditions, peak counts can exceed a million snows. These staged birds, combined with untold numbers of migrating flocks, provide great decoying action. Peak hunting occurs approximately February 20-March 20 during the Conservation Order. This special season has liberal laws allowing the use of electronic callers, unplugged guns, and generous bag limits.

Missouri usually leads the nation in the total spring snow goose harvest. NW Missouri is the most consistent and productive region in Missouri and likely the Midwest. The attractiveness of this region is the quality of hunting and the long period of time that snow geese stay staged. The 2009 season began with high expectations and ultimately it ended up our being our best season ever in Missouri. Our 2009 total harvest was 5471 geese. Five fields approached or exceeded the 100 bird mark. Two 90’s, 145, 147, and 216 bird days. Low field for the year was a zero. The upcoming 2010 spring season will be our 10th anniversary.
