About Adventure Tunilik
Adventure Tunilik Quebec Caribou Hunting Outfitters is at the heart of the Far North, where nature is at its wildest. The nearest city, Schefferville, cannot be reached by car because no road leads there. A railway built in the 50's by the local iron mining company links Schefferville to Sept-Îles, the nearest town located 506 km (315 mi) further south. That is why the best way to get to Schefferville is by plane.
On our Quebec hunting territories, caribou hunting season lasts from August 10th to October 4th. The total number of caribou roaming Quebec's Far North is estimated at one million head and forms three separate herds: the George River herd, the Leaf River herd and the Torngat Mountains herd.
During the Quebec hunting season, the George River herd on our territory reaches about 450,000 head. The number of caribou taken down in Quebec totals some 10,000 head each year. That represents 1% of the total caribou population… and the promise of many good Quebec caribou hunting seasons to come.
Caribou are migrant animals. It is impossible to guarantee that they will be in one designated area during Quebec hunting season. Many natural factors can influence their habits: temperature variations, late spring thaw, abundant rain, high winds, etc. That explains why we chose a vast triangular territory strategically located north of Schefferville.
Apart from our three regular Quebec caribou hunting sites, we have several satellite Quebec caribou hunting camps throughout our territory. Our guests have a territory totaling 1860 sq. km (718 sq. mi) at their disposal, which drastically limits the possibilities of dry hunting.
Upon your arrival in Schefferville, you will be informed of where the herd has been seen and how it is moving on the territory. If there should be no caribou on your assigned Quebec hunting ground, you will be offered to go from Schefferville to a better spot, located by satellite according to government data on herd movement, and this at no extra cost. Such a decision must be made in Schefferville after discussing the matter with personnel and members of your group.
