There are various techniques on how to hunt Blacktail Deer and Roosevelt Elk in Washington and these techniques are what we have mastered! Having a good set of eyes and covering ground, while moving cautiously through the woods at a slow pace, keeping the wind to your face and being in the right area are what brings success.
Growing up as locals we have learned the areas and the animal patterns. Learning exactly what to look for and where is the key to finding these animals in Washington’s rainforest. The cascade mt range extends from Canada to Mexico. It is famous for the pacific crest trial, and a series of volcanoes. Mt saint Helens Mt Adams Mt Hood Mt Rainer. Guided Roosevelt Elk Hunts-Upfront Outfitters offers guided elk hunts on the West side of the Cascade Mountain range for Roosevelt and Cascade Roosevelt elk. The true Roosevelt elk species are typically larger bodied than the Rocky Mountain elk but have smaller horns. The Cascade roosevelt elk is a cross between a Rocky Mountain elk and a Roosevelt elk, creating a seperate category in the record book for Washington and Oregon. We hunt the west side of Interstate 5 in the coastal mountain range for true Roosevelt elk and we hunt east of the I-5 boundary for the Cascade Roosevelt..
The terrain in these areas consist of second growth timber, steep canyons, creek bottoms filled with thick underbrush, and many logged areas which make for great glassing. For clients who have a hard time hiking the canyons, there are miles of walk in only areas accessible by gated logging roads.

Our rifle and archery Roosevelt elk hunts run for 10 days. The only way to access to the back country is by 4x4 vehicles. We as elk hunting guides spend a lot of time scouting areas, glassing from our strategic vantage points. When we spot you that trophy Bull our elk hunting guides make a plan to get you within a good shooting range. We are very technical with our final stock taking terrain and wind direction in account. We can not tell you what kind of physical stamina you will need for that final stock because each situation is different; however, we do take in to account your physical limitations should you have any.
Our Roosevelt elk hunt takes place at the Discovery Passage where there is a quaint rustic lodge for your accommodations.
